Thanksgiving Backseat Games: Guest Blogger Wendy Smolen

Thanksgiving is really about family, friends, and...car rides that are always too long. For those who have a video monitor in the backseat, spring for Disney’s UP for a charming, mesmerizing story that appeals to all ages. (Keep your eyes on the road, Dad!). For 'tweens, the new Hannah Montana: The Movie will also make the drive go quicker. But if kids sitting too close for too long doesn’t seem viable in your family car, go for Nintendo DS games. Each kid can do his own thing and you don’t have to listen to any of it except the “oohs” and “ahhhs” of personal satisfaction. Among the new games out this season, LEGO Rock Band looks like its going to be a “must have” this season. Charm Girls Club My Fashion Show lets kids design and display their own clothes. Pokemon Platinum gives kids one more reason to love this franchise. The latest Super Mario Bros. has amazing 3-D graphics and all new power-ups. And a personal fave, Professor Layton and the Curious Village keeps those mind-bending challenges coming.
Cael, 9, picks up Madden NFL '08 because “you can play all of the positions and play with all the players on the team.” Avery, 8, likes Petz Dogz 2 because she “likes dogs and likes to enter the competitions.” Katie, also 8, likes My Sims because she can create her own perfect house.
If you’re lucky, halfway through the trip your kids will gladly trade games...giving you at least another hour of road peace. Are you there yet? -- Wendy Smolen
